House Revenue and Tax
December 8, 2021
Jett [00:00:00] Here’s what we got going on today. So we’re going to take up Senate Bill 1, Senate Bill 2, Senate Bill 10. These are the three, exact three bills, companion bills that we all heard yesterday. So if you have a new question, by all means, ask it. But we’re not going to sit here and beat a dead horse if we can keep from beating that dead horse. OK? With that being said, Rep. Maddox, Senator Dismang, y’all recognize yourself. If you want to entertain questions, if you want to present a bill or whatever you want to do.Â
Dismang [00:00:33] I’m closed if he’s closed.Â
Maddox [00:00:36] I’m definitely closed.Â
Jett [00:00:37] All right. So let me back up. I’ve got to ask– we have one person in the audience signed up to speak for the bill. Paul Calvert, you in the room? All right. He’s not in the room. Oh, here he is. We’re waiting on you. Please recognize yourself. Â
Calvert [00:01:12] My name is Paul Calvert. Thank you committee. Get my notes up here. As a taxpayer, I really don’t like it when government takes my money on threat of men with guns coming to lock me up in a cage if I don’t comply. However, there is something that burns me up even more than government taking my money. It bothers me even more when government spends my money, spends these tax dollars, because in many cases when government spends this tax money that often results in a loss of freedom for good, hardworking people. So I like the idea of having less money stolen from me on a regular basis. But I am even more excited that government will be spending fewer dollars in ways that will almost certainly violate my rights and the rights of my friends and neighbors. So thank you, committee. That’s all I have to say.Â
Jett [00:01:58] Thank you, sir. OK, anybody signed up to speak against the bill? For the bill? Sen. Dismang, you say you’re closed for the bill.Â
Dismang [00:02:06] I’m closed.Â
Jett [00:02:07] Do we have motion members? Have a motion from Rep. Lundstrum. Any debate? All in favor say aye. Opposed. Congratulations, you passed your bill, sir. All right. Moving on down to Senate bill number 2. And this is Senator Dismang also and this is the Tax Appeal Commission. Same thing, members. We heard this yesterday. Sen. Dismang, do you have anything you want to add?Â
Dismang [00:02:28] Happy to take any questions.Â
Jett [00:02:30] Any questions, members? Anybody in the audience want to speak for the bill? Against the bill? Sen Dismang, you closed for your bill? Do we have a motion? I have a motion from Rep. Beatty. Any debate? All in favor say aye. Opposed. Congratulations, sir. Thank you. Senator Wallace, you in the room? Members, this is the waste reduction recycling credit bill as well. We ran this bill yesterday. Sen. Wallace, if you don’t care, sir, when you get situated, recognize yourself.Â
Wallace [00:03:05] Thank you, Mr. Chairman, good to be back in the House. Members, I’ll be glad to answer any questions that you have. And with that, I stand by.Â
Jett [00:03:12] Members, any questions. I have a question. Rep. McElroy.Â
McElroy [00:03:15] Where can you get an application?Â
Wallace [00:03:16] Come on down and see me up here in northeast Arkansas. I have a special one for you.Â
Jett [00:03:25] We can only imagine. Any questions, members? Anybody in the audience want to speak against the bill? For the bill? Sen. Wallace, you closed for your bill, sir? Do we have a motion? A motion do pass. Represent McElroy. Any debate? All in favor say aye. Opposed. Congratulations, sir, you passed your bill. All right, members, I think that’s going to wrap us up, believe it or not. And I certainly appreciate you guys and look forward to seeing you back during the fiscal session maybe.Â
