Sen. Jim Hendren spoke with Hallie Jackson from MSNBC about his decision to leave the Republican Party and noted his confidence that Common Ground Arkansas will provide a home to the “politically homeless” who don’t currently feel they’re represented by a political party. Sen. Hendren previously announced his decision to serve Arkansas as an Independent, along with the formation of Common Ground Arkansas, on Feb. 18.

“I do think that there is a broader and wider group of people who feel politically homeless now. … From everything I hear, I see a hunger for people to come back to the middle, to stop the nationalization of our state politics and to give a return to bipartisanship. When I joined the legislature in the late ’90s, it was not like it is today. We’ve seen an incredible increase in partisanship, and I just think that people are ready for something different.”
