Do the People Rule in Arkansas?

Our state motto here in Arkansas is “The People Rule,” but limited candidate choices and a power-hungry legislative agenda threaten our ability to live out that principle.

In 2020, 56% of Arkansas legislators for office ran unopposed. Another 21% ran in races with token opposition.
And in the 2021 session, the state legislature advanced an amendment to the 2022 ballot that would require citizen-led initiatives get 60% of the vote to pass instead of the current 50%.
Do the People rule when it takes 60% for them to pass laws but it takes just 50% for the legislature to do the same thing?
